In Solidarity with Orlando!

inclusive

The Merced LGBT Community Center would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends directly impacted by the events on June 11th at the LGBTQ+ nightclub Pulse in Orlando Florida. Further we like to stand in solidarity with the entire LGBTQ+ community around the world in calling out this hateful terrorist attack. While the investigation is ongoing and we do not know the specific motivations, it is clear that this was a terrorist act targeting the LGBTQ+ community, more specifically the Latinx LGBTQ+ community.

Riding on the coattails of religious freedom, freedom of speech and the right to bear arms should not disavow the humanity of the LGBTQ+ community and our rights to pursue the freedoms that all others enjoy. The bigots and homophobes have created laws and policies to circumvent our rights in order to infuse our nation with bigotry and hatred. It’s these same bigots and homophobes who are now using assault weapons to gun down our inalienable rights to freedoms that all citizens of the US deserve. It is because of this that we choose not to allow these acts of terror to silence our voices and keep us from continuing to seek our rights.

The Merced LGBT Community Center is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, along with our family and friends to congregate, find support and resources. Our doors are open on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3-7pm, Wednesday from 4:30-7pm and Saturday from 12-5pm.

The Story

Merced LGBT Community Center opened their doors on August 30th, 2014 under the financial support of Gay Central Valley. The Center was successful in creating a safe space for the LGBTQ+ and Ally community within Merced, California. There was a network of volunteers to staff the Center, provides resources and host educational, social and advocacy programs. Additionally, the center provided space for multiple community organizations to hold meetings. Unfortunately, due to the dissolution of Merced Full Spectrum in May, on July 1st, 2015 the Merced LGBT Community Center closed their doors.
As a result of the Merced LGBT Community Center closing its doors, a group of LGBTQ+ and Allies came together to form the Merced LGBTQ Alliance, a new Board of Directors, on July 3rd 2015. Due to their hard work and dedication, on September 1st 2015, the Merced LGBT Community Center reopened its doors to the community; again working to create a safe and welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ and Ally community within Merced, California.

THE CENTER IS NOW OPEN!
